Qualifying Highlights 2023 Australian Grand Prix

The 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix qualifying session took place on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, Australia. Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing took pole position, with a time of 1:17.868. This was Verstappen's second pole position of the 2023 season, and the 21st of his career.

Joining Verstappen on the front row was Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, who was 0.296 seconds slower than the Dutchman. Sainz's teammate, Charles Leclerc, qualified third, a further 0.019 seconds behind. Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing took fourth place, ahead of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

The top ten was completed by Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, Lando Norris of McLaren, Nico Hulkenberg of Haas, and Esteban Ocon of Alpine. Notably, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton failed to make it into Q3 for the first time since the 2022 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, and will start the race from 11th place.

The 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, March 19th, 2023. Verstappen will be the favorite to win the race, but Sainz, Leclerc, and Perez will all be hoping to challenge him for victory.
