Kyogos Stunning Volley Seconds Before Half Time Seals A Crucial Victory In The First Scottish Premiership Old Firm Game Of The Season

WEB Celtic end Rangers' unbeaten run to move eight points clear

Kyogo's stunning volley seconds before half-time seals a crucial victory in the first Scottish Premiership Old Firm game of the season.

Celtic 2-1 Rangers

Celtic ended Philippe Clements unbeaten Rangers record to move eight clear of their Old Firm rivals after a frantic encounter at Parkhead.

Kyogo Furuhashi's stunning volley seconds before half-time proved to be the winning goal, with Fashion Sakala's second-half strike proving to be nothing more than a consolation.

The victory was Celtic's third in their last five away games against Rangers in all competitions and gives them a significant advantage in the title race.

It was a pulsating match from start to finish, with Rangers having the better of the first-half chances. Alfredo Morelos had a goal ruled out for offside after just three minutes, while Ryan Kent and James Tavernier both went close.

However, Celtic grew into the game and took the lead against the run of play when Kyogo latched onto a pass from Aaron Mooy and fired a stunning volley into the top corner.

Rangers started the second half brightly and deservedly equalised when Sakala headed home from close range after a cross from Borna Barisic.

But Celtic regained the lead just minutes later when Matt O'Riley's cross was met by an unmarked Kyogo, who side-footed home from 12 yards.

Rangers pushed for a late equaliser but Celtic held on to secure a crucial victory that moves them eight points clear at the top of the table.

The victory was a major boost for Celtic's title hopes and sets up a thrilling title run-in.
